15 Months
We have finally had some nice weather to celebrate Elena's most recent milestones. During the past few days, she has taken to pointing to her sun hat, jacket, and shoes; she then provides you with about 10 seconds to retrieve such items for her before the screaming starts. Here are some pictures of her and Grampy enjoying the play set.

Raft Trip
We spent the last few days rafting the Owyhee River with the Garrett brothers and their friend Jim. This was our first overnight trip together away from Elena. We had a great time and our babysitters are still speaking to us so I think Sprout did okay as well. Here is a picture of Karen and I ready to push off on day 2.Corby decided to try kayaking a few of the rapids. He did really well aside from one unexpected swim. Here he is just prior to flipping.
And here are Kasey and Jim running the same rapid.
The second night we camped out at the Birch Creek takeout. This turned into quite the cultural experience. We met another couple who were camping there as well. We ended up spending most of the night in an old barn watching Julie dance, sing, and play her harmonica. Her lack of musical talent was more than compensated for by her southern charm and crazy personality.

Weekend Update
On Saturday, we took the horses for a ride. We started out with Elena in the backpack, but I also let her sit on the saddle with me. At one point, my horse suddenly turned sideways in the trail. I looked down to see Sprout reeling in one of the reins...Here is a picture I had to share. Bill and Jessica have given us many toys that their kids have outgrown. I think Elena feels like a princess sitting on her throne and pressing buttons, but at one point she nearly gave Karen a heart attack. Notice that I reached for the camera rather than grabbing soon-to-be-falling child.

Jogging For Joints Part III
On Saturday we took part in the third annual arthritis run sponsored by Karen's employer, West Valley Hospital. This picture is the only proof we have that we actually participated, as we forgot the camera. Karen and Bev took the kids in the strollers, and were very proud of the fact that they were the first stroller-jogger-mommies to finish the race.
Justin and I ran the 10k. We were all tied up at 1-1, so the pressure was on. Well, all of Justin's training (including Robie Cr. two weeks ago) paid off. At the five mile mark he pulled away as I was searching for a place to deposit the contents of my stomach. I managed to finish the race with my breakfast intact in just under 51 minutes, while Justin finished in under 50 minutes. Next year Justin and I will be pushing strollers, so I have been busy designing a motorized stroller.

Basement Update
We have finally progressed to the point of hanging sheet rock in our basement. Jesse (our former neighbor) is doing the work for us. As you can see, it is actually starting to look more like livable space. We're hoping to have it painted and carpeted in three weeks. Ah, the end is in sight......for the basement anyway. The utility room still has a ways to go. I moved some outlets over the weekend and made a huge mess. Something tells me that Karen has to imagine her brand new washer and dryer every time she walks into this room just to maintain her sanity.
