Little Picasso

I think we have a budding Picasso on our hands. This weekend, Alex and Katie came over and all the kids did a little finger painting.
We used some washable paint by Crayola. The most challenging part was trying to keep Elena from eating the paint.
This is her finished product. Not bad for her first attempt.

Birthday Party

We went to Rylen's 4th birthday party on Saturday. The picture below is Elena enjoying her swag. She loved the bubbles in the bag, along with the noise maker, pinwheel, and stickers.
Elena is deciding that pizza is a really good thing. Barry has decided to start calling her Bottomless Pit, for the large quantity of food she puts away.
And of course, Elena got to indulge in a cupcake. I think she really enjoys the birthday celebrations.

Monthly Pictures: 12 Months

Today I am watching Elena while Karen is working. I was given the job of taking Elena's one year pictures with Puppy. Karen planned to set out an appropriate outfit, but I think she forgot. Here is a picture of Elena and Puppy from a year ago...and here is a picture of her wanting to do anything BUT hold still on the couch for a picture. With a little help from Grampie I was able to get one decent picture. This morning we opened Elena's birthday presents. Props to Kory and Sylvia for getting what was probably her favorite present: ribbon.Today Elena and I took advantage of the nice weather and worked on some outdoor projects. I was struggling with a project on the horse trailer and started getting frustrated (read mad) because it wasn't going well. Elena was watching over my shoulder from the backpack and actually laughed at me. When I told her it wasn't funny, she started laughing hysterically. The nerve!

Birthday #1

Today we celebrated Elena's first birthday. We had a little party at John and Mary's house. Elena gobbled down a bunch of pizza and made a mess of her clothes, but that was just the beginning.Next, Karen brought out the birthday cake (minus the cool #1 candle because Karen forgot it at home). Karen's mom came through with a regular birthday candle. As you can see from this picture, Sprout is a chip off the 'ole block; she nearly burned herself on the candle three times.
Once Elena touched the cake, she wasn't sure what to make of the sticky texture and the giant hunk of food in front of her. She attempted to toss the entire cake aside, but Grandpa Les demonstrated skills from his former life and saved the day. Here you see the aftermath of Grandpa Les's triumphant save. Once she tasted the sugary goodness, the cake disappeared quickly. Elena doesn't exactly pick at her food. While I was trying to clean her up after dinner she kept digging for and eating pieces of cake that fell on her seat.As we finished eating cake, three kids (including Elena) started into their bedtime howling, so we cut the party short. We will open her presents tomorrow. Thanks to everyone who made it to the party!

Christmas in February

Yesterday Bill and Jessica gave us some of their kids' old toys. By "some" of their toys, I mean that Karen's Subaru was packed full of toys. Here is a picture of Elena enjoying her loot.Today Elena learned how to drink her bath water. YUM! Disgusted, Karen ran to get her a sippy cup full on nice, clean water. Elena instantly threw it out of the way and went back to drinking bathwater.

Supberbowl XLV

Elena got to experience her first Superbowl this weekend. Superbowl is much more than a football game, it's like a major holiday that is waiting to be recognized. Football, food, camaraderie, beer, more food- what's not to love?
Here is Elena getting ready to go Oma & Grampy's to watch the game- she's rooting for the Packers this year. Thanks to Jess for the Packers jacket!

On another note, we went to dinner with Barry's parents on Saturday to celebrate Randy's birthday. Another couple sat down next to us with a girl about Sprout's age. After exchanging pleasantries, the guy looked at Sprout and said, "Did you shave his head?" It's a good thing I was between Karen and him, because I'm pretty sure she would've choked him down otherwise.

Latest Design

What do you get when you have a fresh design idea, some used, rusty horseshoes...
a wire brush to clean up horseshoes...
a horseshoe that's no match for the ironworker...
and a little bit of welding?
A totally awesome moose coat hanger. He's a little more impressive after his recent paint job and the most popular item we've made recently.

Week in Review

It's been a pretty quiet week here. I thought I would share a few miscellaneous pictures from the last week. Here is Elena playing with her toys. She loves the walk behind toy on the right- it's her new favorite. She starting to become quite proficient with walking (assisted).
Here is Elena checking out her new clothes that Matt & Jacci sent this last week. This is in addition to the 2 new bags of clothes she got from Jess last week.
Barry was on nap duty and Elena wasn't wanting to sleep. He put her in the backpack, where she promptly fell asleep. Not wanting to disturb her, he simply left the sleeping babe alone.
