Weekend Project

Last weekend I installed two egress windows with the help of Luis, John, and Kory. I already had the window wells excavated ahead of time. On Saturday we cut and jackhammered the holes through 6.5 inches of concrete. As you can see from the pictures, Luis and John did most of the work while I took pictures and tried to act busy. On Sunday, Kory helped me install the windows. Here are the before and after pics.

I still need to install window wells and trim them out, but the majority of the work is done. I think we'll be hanging sheet rock soon and moving on to more enjoyable weekend activities in the future.

Historic Day on Malt Rd.

Last night I loaded up all of our recycling, rolled it out to the curb, and when I got home today it was all gone! That's right, we now have curbside recycling on Malt Rd. (and you don't even have to sort it). First high speed internet and now this! What's going to be next, pizza delivery?

Weekend in Donnelly

We spent the weekend with the Macks at their cabin in Donnelly. It was a nice relaxing weekend except for the fact that Elena decided that sleeping at night was unnecessary...for all of us. Zarek is quite a photogenic kid, and never missed the chance to pose for the camera.Yesterday we loaded up the kids for a little bit of snowshoeing. It was a beautiful afternoon and we enjoyed the snow. After the kids both passed out, we called it a day.The cabin has a sign which reads, "What happens at the cabin, stays at the cabin." Apparently this rule doesn't apply to kids, as we snapped several pictures of them bathing together for teenage blackmail material. Thanks again to Bev and Justin for inviting us to their cabin again!

Hot Springs Trip to Remember

On our way home from Donnelly today, we decided to stop by Skinnydipper Hot Springs. When we arrived there were six people already soaking in the tub. They were very friendly and invited us to join them in the tub. Karen is very much a "Textile" bather, while our new acquaintances were not. They were very friendly folks, most of whom were retired (read old and saggy). Two of the gentlemen soaking built the tub in 1995 and maintain the area almost weekly. One of the gentlemen offered to take a family picture for us (above). This wasn't working well because Elena wasn't looking at the camera. Our new acquaintances were exceedingly helpful. Two of them bailed out of the tub and stood behind the cameraman. One of them held his hands above his head to block the sun in Elena's eyes while the other one danced around to get her attention. Here you will see that Elena's face is nicely shaded and Karen is trying desperately to remove the "dancing sack" images from her memory.
